Depression

Open Your Bible

These verses and any linked articles/stories are intended to help jumpstart you in your own studies. MOST VERSES ARE BEST UNDERSTOOD WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF THE WHOLE LETTER in which it was written. We can’t emphasize enough how important it is to have your own bible and seek on your own. no one or any resource can replace one-on-one time with the king.

Bible versions used will vary and some may be paraphrased. We suggest using BibleGateway.com to look up the verse in your favorite version.

Depression can hook anyone. We get caught in the grip of darkness and it can feel like it’s impossible to get out, like being sucked under by quicksand. Thankfully, scripture talks about depression and despair quite a bit. Even Jesus, God wrapped in flesh, had moments of despair in the garden and scripture records that he often withdrew to be alone. Scripture tells us that Jesus was familiar with grief and pain! He gets it but he also gives us a way out.

HEBREWS 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

JOHN 3:16-18 For this is how much God loved the world – he gave his one and only, unique Son as a gift. So now everyone who believes in him will never perish but experience everlasting life. God did not send his Son into the world to judge and condemn the world, but to be its Savior and rescue it! So now there is no longer any condemnation for those who believe in him… [TPT]

John 1:4-5 In him (Jesus) was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. [ESV]

John 1:4-5 Life came into being because of him (Jesus), for his life is light for all humanity. And this Living Expression (Jesus) is the Light that bursts through gloom-the Light that darkness could not diminish! [TPT]

What good news! Jesus (Yeshua) is THE Light. Society speaks often of being a light or the "light" within us. But what is the source? There is "light" that is actually dark.(Read Luke 11:33-36). Jesus is the ONLY source of Light that "bursts through the gloom-the Light that darkness could not diminish!". I want Light in me that destroys the darkness!

ISAIAH 53:2-6 He was not well-formed or especially handsome; we saw him, but his appearance did not attract us.
People despised and avoided him, a man of pains, well acquainted with illness.
Like someone from whom people turn their faces, he was despised; we did not value him.

In fact, it was our diseases he bore, our pains from which he suffered; yet we regarded him as punished, stricken and afflicted by God.

But he was wounded because of our crimes, crushed because of our sins; the disciplining that makes us whole fell on him,
and by his bruises we are healed.

We all, like sheep, went astray; we turned, each one, to his own way; yet Adonai laid on him the guilt of all of us. [CJB]

1 PETER 2:4-5 So keep coming to him who is the Living Stone-though he was rejected and discarded by men but chosen by God and is priceless in God’s sight. Come and be his “living stones” who are continually being assembled into a sanctuary for God. [TPT]

(A friend shared a portion of a journal entry): Yes and Amen! Yeshua is my haven and my Living Stone. I have had a taste of the goodness of the Lord and I love it! I'll take His goodness over my past, pain, rejection, or disappointments. His goodness is too good to continue to swin in the swamp of victimhood. The only story I fell compelled to tell anymore is the goodness and kindness of God.
